Community Character Exercise

The “Community Character” segment of the meeting lasted for about half an hour. Residents were invited to create a list of those features of Castine that they thought most worth preserving. It was understood that at the end of the meeting each person would be given three red dots and would be asked to place them on the list according to each person’s preference. A total of 27 items was placed on the list, although a few more were added by e-mail later. The items receiving the most dots were 1) Natural beauty, 2) Architectural Heritage, 3) Schools, 4) “A Full Service Town,” and 5) the Harbor and Harbor Front.
